The Machine

Digital video installation,

Ingredients: monitor Ø 55 cm, computer, big red panic button, wood, sound.

Somewhere in the corner is a monitor with a big red button next to it. It produces the sound of a machine, running with a constant hum. The image seems abstract; some gray-ish shapes.

If a visitor presses the red button, the machine rattles and a plastic cup falls into the image. The buzzing continues. Press the button again and the cup starts to shake and seems to get filled with a liquid. After a while the cup disappears. It turns out to be a coffee machine.

This work belongs in a corner, like an office coffee maker, were people can gather and discuss the meaning of life and other daily matters.

Een monitor aan de muur, op een hoogte van 1.20m, produceert een constante bromtoon, als van een machine. Het beeld is bewegingsloos en abstract; grijzige vlakken met een zwart object boven in. Naast de monitor nodigt een grote rode knop uit tot drukken. Doet men dit, dan klinkt er een geratel en valt er een plastic bekertje in beeld. Drukt men nog een keer, dan klinkt er een hoop lawaai en loopt het bekertje schuddend vol met een onzichtbare vloeistof. Het blijkt een koffie automaat te zijn.

Dit werk levert de ideale plek voor een goed gesprek of om de dingen van de dag door te nemen.
